When it comes to social media nowadays there are so many platform options, over 400 to be precise, so many that you may find yourself questioning which platform is best for you and your business. With so many options it’s easy to feel sucked into thinking you need them all, don’t worry, you don’t. You really only need to use the platforms that your target markets are using, and the platforms that will best show off your product; You wouldn’t use Instagram to show off a service based industry. This may seem like a clear answer but Brandwatch.com providers further insight into why there is no right or wrong answer for big question, but what should I use? It’s clear Facebook is the largest social media platform right now, and with over 1 billion users, it’s not going anywhere any time soon. But there are other other platforms to consider. Social sites like Instagram, Pintrest and Vine are great, but have specific demographics, that can be explored. With a smaller and more focused user base it is easier to hone in on your target audience. If you’re an avid follower of our blog (why wouldn’t you be?) we discussed in our last podcast that Facebook’s organic reach is plummeting. So focusing your efforts specifically on a specific demographic is essential because your voice is only going so far you need to assess where your online presence will be most beneficial by analyzing demographics and platform usage. Take for example this chart depicting where the word “champagne” is mentioned / tagged most often.

Which Filter Should I Use?

As a business it’s important to stay on top of the most current social media trends. The most popular new form of social media is Instagram. This makes total sense considering “a picture is worth 1,000 words.” Instagram (IG) was established in 2010 and has been gaining “followers” ever since. IG is strictly mobile based, and at this time it is not possible to post a photo on via the desktop site, although a quick visit to instagram.com will provide a great photo viewer! Like Facebook and Twitter, IG encourages the use of Hashtags in photo posts. Hashtags allow you to link your photo with anyone else using the same Hashtag. The newest component of IG is the capability to record and share videos as well!

Making Snapchat Work for You!

Snapping Your Way to Success

Are you familiar with SnapChat? If you aren’t, you will become familiar with it today. Like many social media sites today following the lead of Instagram, SnapChat is a strictly mobile based site. All you need is a smart phone, to download the app from your app store and create an account. To do so, you will need an e-mail address and to generate a password for this account. Once you create an account it can be synced to the contacts in your phone to find other people on the mobile device. This creates a smaller market of people you are targeting. However, it doesn’t have to be small and even if just one person that would not have normally seen your ad sees it, this is a major plus! Though, you need to make it count because you only have 10 seconds maximum for your message to be viewed.

10 Tips for Vine

Vine is a video mobile application that leverages the quick sound-byte social media culture in the same way as Instagram, except that its video feature is “micro” and lasts only six seconds that can play on a continuous loop. Vine is a platform, but the video clips are more often viewed on Twitter or Facebook. The auxiliary features important to a business using vine social media strategies to promote its product or service are a caption field and a hashtag option.

Facebook is De-Spamming

Facebook announced recently they are changing their spam algorithm. This is great for the “consumer” but could get tricky for business owners. I’ve always hated when people “baited” for likes, comments or shares by adding the tagline – “Like if you Agree” or “Share if you Love your Honda,” but all of the research I’ve done has shown that posts that use those bait lines get 4x more engagement then posts that don’t. WAIT! Before you run to change your social media strategy, you should probably know the new algorithm is designed to mark posts using “engagement baiting” as spam!
